KUCHING, 17 JULY 2026 – Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) Berhad and Yayasan MR. D.I.Y. today commemorated the launch of their collaboration under the STEM Discovery On Wheels initiative, marking a shared commitment to expanding access to hands-on STEM learning opportunities for students and communities across Sarawak.

Through this collaboration, Yayasan MR. D.I.Y. contributed 100,000 units of STEM DIY Kits to SDEC. Yayasan MR D.I.Y.’s STEM Discovery On Wheels initiative will be rolled out in Sarawak by leveraging SDEC’s established Science on Wheels outreach programme and broader digital and innovation ecosystem.

The STEM DIY Kits will be utilised through hands-on STEM learning sessions conducted at schools, community venues, Sarawak Digital’s innovation spaces across Sarawak, including Makeramai Makerspace located at Plaza Merdeka, as well as exhibitions, science fairs, carnivals, roadshows, and other public STEM outreach activities throughout the region.

The collaboration brings together the strengths of Yayasan MR. D.I.Y.’s STEM Discovery On Wheels initiative and SDEC’s Science on Wheels outreach programme, enabling both organisations to maximise the reach and impact of STEM supplementary programmes through an established statewide delivery network.

By integrating the STEM DIY Kits into SDEC’s existing outreach ecosystem, the initiative aims to inspire curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving through engaging, experiential learning.

The collaboration ceremony was attended by Cletus Lee Aik Yew, SDEC’s General Manager, Innovation and Digitalisation; Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan MR. D.I.Y., Zaleha Mohd Mydin; and other representatives from SDEC, MR. D.I.Y., Teach For Malaysia (TFM), and Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) Serian. TFM and DIH Serian will play an important role in supporting the implementation and rollout of the initiative within their respective communities.

According to Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto bin Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC, strategic collaborations such as this enable SDEC to extend meaningful STEM hands-on learning opportunities to more students and communities across Sarawak.

By leveraging SDEC’s established Science on Wheels outreach programme, we are able to amplify the reach of Yayasan MR. D.I.Y.’s STEM Discovery On Wheels initiative. At the same time, we are also strengthening the Sarawak’s STEM ecosystem through collaborative partnerships and supplementary programmes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zaleha Mohd Mydin, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan MR. D.I.Y., commented that the Yayasan is pleased to collaborate with SDEC in bringing the STEM Discovery On Wheels initiative to Sarawak.

“Through SDEC’s established outreach network and programmes, we are confident that the 100,000 STEM DIY Kits will encourage more students to discover, create and explore STEM through enjoyable, hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom,” she said.

The event also included a live demonstration of the STEM DIY Kits by school students, showcasing how the kits can be assembled and used in actual setting. The demonstration provided invited guests and members of the media with a first-hand look at the learning experience that will be delivered through future STEM supplementary programmes across Sarawak.
