MIRI, 23 JUNE 2023 – Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (Yayasan Peneraju) and TikTok Pte Ltd (TikTok) during the launching of Minggu PMKS Sarawak at Coco Cabana, Miri today.
Present to witness the ceremony was Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan and YB Senator Puan Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MEDAC).
The MoU between SDEC and Yayasan Peneraju aims to create a working relationship towards the successful implementation of both SDEC and Yayasan Peneraju programmes, and for the growth of the local community in digital skills; development of digitally savvy entrepreneurs; and Industry 4.0 ready businesses.
SDEC and Yayasan Peneraju were represented by Chief Executive Officer Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman and Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr Amina Josetta Kayani, respectively.
Meanwhile, the objectives of the MoU exchange with TikTok are to increase the number of sellers in TikTok Shop and explore the potential opportunities that the innovative ‘shopertainment’ platform could offer to Sarawakian sellers under the Sarawak Digital Mall initiative. This initiative provides training by TikTok Shop (MY) and TikTok for Business teams, discount vouchers, sponsored ads credits, a dedicated microsite and many more activities.
Representing TikTok for this exchange were Partnership Manager, TikTok Shop Malaysia Ms Nur Azre Abdul Aziz, and Strategic Partnerships Manager, TikTok for Business for Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines Ms Gwenllian Ching.
Commenting on yet another new milestone achieved by SDEC, Sudarnoto said that the addition of Yayasan Peneraju and TikTok as the agency’s partners will definitely boost the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as a result of digital tools adoption.
“As the agency mandated by the Sarawak State Government to digitalise the private sector in Sarawak, SDEC has initiated various programmes throughout the State to benefit our local entrepreneurs by utilising our network of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH),” he added.
Commenting on the MoU, Dr. Amina Josetta Kayani said that “Yayasan Peneraju looks forward to working together with SDEC in implementing the programmes, for the development of digital skills amongst the Sarawakians. We believe in crafting bespoke solutions to building talents. To do this, we are complementing Sarawak’s existing ecosystem of highly accomplished organisations including SDEC and a few others.”
“With the continued global digitalization, it is imperative for our human capital across the country to keep up with the knowledge and skills, thus increasing grit and resilience with the ever-changing workforce landscape,” she adds.
