Sigfox Internet of Thing (IoT) Testbed

Sigfox Internet Of Things (IoT) Testbed is an open innovation platform for university researchers, startups, and solution providers to explore, experiment and develop IoT use cases.

Sigfox IoT Network

Founded in France in 2010, SigFox is a cellular style, long-range, low power, low data rate form of wireless communications that has been developed to provide wireless connectivity for devices like remote sensors, actuators and other IoT devices. Sigfox technology is based on long-range radio communication, designed to make any object to be connected to the Internet and to generate high-value data. Sigfox has designed its technology to meet the requirements of mass IoT applications using Ultra Narrow Band modulation; long device battery life-cycle, low device cost, low connectivity fee, high network capacity, and long-range.

Sigfox’s long range and low power 0G network is a seamless global network supported by over 70 network operators around the world. The lightweight network provides a secure way for logistic companies operating regionally and internationally to collect data, monitor and track goods without investing heavily on expensive and complicated roaming systems or changing SIM cards. With improved visibility of their goods round the clock, 24/7, logistics companies can ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential goods and customer satisfaction.

Sigfox IoT Testbed at CoE Openlab

Centre of Excellence for Digital Economy Openlab (CoE Openlab) launched in August 2020 by the Honorable Chief Minister of Sarawak housed 1st Sigfox IoT Testbed in Sarawak, supported by X-Peranti IoT as part of a strategic partnership with Sarawak Digital Economic Corporation (SDEC) to help scale up Sarawak’s digital economy initiatives across sectors.

The testbed provides a platform for Research and Development activities to produce new technology or solutions utilising the Sigfox IoT Network. It also serves as a reference for proven IoT deployment across major digital economy sectors such as Smart City applications, Transportation & Logistics, Utilities and Agriculture by complementing other communication technologies such as 4G and 5G connectivity.

Sigfox IoT Showcase and Usecase at our Openlab

Smart |PARKING|

Smart Parking provides intelligent occupancy monitoring system in part of Openlab’s compound. With sensors embedded, we are able to show on its use case on how to manage parking resources more efficiently.

Smart |WATER METER|

Our smart water meter uses Sigfox Iot network allowing remote location monitoring and infrastructure maintenance to measures and analyze water flow and also enable automatic billing and customer management, including detection and protection against tampering attempts.

Smart |SOIL QUALITY|

This Smart Soil Quality sensor allows users to remotely monitor the real-time data on soil quality by measuring the pH value, NPK value and Soil Temperature & Moisture readings. The data from the sensor can be used to initiate the intervention process to stop the soil quality from further deteriorations.

Smart |WATER LEVEL|

This SigFox Smart Water Level is a technology using ultrasonic wave to determine the water level of a specific area. This technology can be implemented on area such as river & drainage.

GPS |LOCATION TRACKER|

This is a compact GPS tracking device that use to send GPS precision location tracker from point-to-point to a back-end mapping platform.
