The Right Honoroble Premier of Sarawak launched the Sarawak Digital Residency Programme (SDRP) during the 7th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024), introducing DE Rantau Sarawak as the first phase of the programme.

DE Rantau Sarawak Pass is a Professional Visit Pass (PVP) that enables digital freelancer and remote workers to live and work in both Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia for up to 12 months, with the option to renew for an additional 12 months

Mandatory Qualifying Criteria Pass

  • Digital freelancer, independent contractor
  • Remote worker i.e. employee of a company but not required to physically be in the office
  • Tech Talent:
    1. IT (all types – software development, UX, UI, cloud, cybersecurity, blockchain, AI, machine learning, data-related, or similar field)
    2. Digital marketing, digital creative content, digital content development, and all digital domain-related work
FreelancerRemote Worker
  • Active project contract
  • Active employment contract
  • Contract duration > 3 months, can be multiple contracts
  • Contract duration > 3 months
  • Clientele can be both local & foreign companies
  • Employer is foreign / non-Malaysian based companies
  • USD24,000 per year
  • Professional Visit Pass (Pas Lawatan Ikhtisas PLIK)
    • 3 to 12 months, renewable for additional 12 months
    • Able to bring in spouse, child/children, and parents of the main applicant
    • Fee: RM2,000 (main applicant) and RM1,000 (dependent)
