12 JANUARY 2025, DARO – The Sarawak Government through Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) today launched the MySRBN (Sarawak Rural Broadband Network) internet service at Kampung Betanak in Pulau Bruit, Daro, signifying yet another expansion of its internet coverage that is currently connected to more than 28,000 customer premises throughout Sarawak.

The event marked the introduction of affordable, high-speed broadband internet access to rural areas in Sarawak and highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to improving digital connectivity and ensuring equal opportunities for all. It also aimed to raise awareness of MySRBN service and the MySDEC app as well as provide opportunity for the local community to provide feedback for service improvement and enhanced user experience.
MySRBN leverages fixed wireless access (FWA) technology on existing and new infrastructures to provide internet access to the rural and remote communities. In July 2024, following the introduction of the new MySRBN home prepaid package preloaded with 300MB of free data every month, customers now also have the options to purchase additional data from as low as RM5 (for seven days with 200GB data), RM20 (30 days with 1000GB data), RM60 (90 days with no limit), and RM110 (180 days with no limit).
The RM20 package, for example, is offered at a very affordable rate for the same service provided by other telecommunication providers which is RM70 a month. This is made possible by the assistance provided by the Sarawak Government, bringing the cost down to just RM20 for 30 days usage.
The event was launched by YB Dato Sri Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, and attended by YB Datuk Abdullah bin Haji Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) and ADUN for N.42 Semop; members of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) and Parliament; Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC; and other distinguished guests.
In his speech, YB Dato Sri Julaihi highlighted the significance of MySRBN’s progress since it was launched in 2021 as it reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in this digital era.
“As of 31 December 2024, MySRBN has connected more than 28,000 customer premises with over 34,000 total registrations received. Today is not just about a launching event but also a symbol of hope, opening new opportunities for the local community of Pulau Bruit in education, business, job prospects, and more,” he said.

Meanwhile, YB Datuk Abdullah spoke about the potential of digital access for the younger generation that paves the way for a more competitive and progressive future.
“With MySRBN, children in Pulau Bruit now have the opportunity to participate in national and international online competitions, such as science, mathematics, and creative writing contests, giving them a chance to compete globally and expanding their knowledge beyond the traditional classroom setting. We are hopeful that this will empower the younger generation to develop critical skills and broaden their horizons,” he commented.

The event also featured an exhibition that showcased various initiatives and programmes implemented by SDEC and other agencies such as Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak, Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), Agrobank, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), and other agencies. Ahead of the launch on 11 January, SDEC organised a STEM event involving students and teachers from 11 primary and secondary school in Pulau Bruit.
