KUCHING, 20 NOVEMBER 2024 – Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), the lead implementing agency for Sarawak’s digital economy initiatives for the private sector, yesterday unveiled a strategic collaboration with Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB), Zecon Berhad (ZECON), and Global Network Inc. (GNI) to jointly develop and invest in the highly anticipated Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP).
The collaboration was formalised through the Signing and Exchange Ceremony of Strategic Collaboration Agreement which was witnessed by Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Morshidi bin Haji Abdul Ghani, Chairman of SDEC. The signatories were Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of PHB; Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC; Devid H. This partnership represents a significant milestone in Sarawak’s pursuit to establish itself as a regional leader in green technologies and digital infrastructure. KPGTP will be a model for future developments, integrating environmental sustainability with technological innovation. The agreement aims to leverage the expertise, resources, and networks of the four partners to develop and invest in a sustainable, high-tech township in Sarawak, integrating state-of-the-art infrastructure with green technologies to foster innovation and economic growth while contributing to Sarawak’s long-term sustainability goals.
Currently in its first phase of development, KPGTP is also in the process of securing the status of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Malaysia Digital Cybercity (MDC), both of which are crucial for attracting significant foreign direct investment (FDI) to Sarawak.
SDEC will play a central role in integrating the digital infrastructure necessary for KPGTP to thrive as a hub for modern industries as well as ensuring the park is equipped with advanced digital solutions. As part of SDEC’s initiatives to attract data centre investments in alignment with the Post-COVID 19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), this effort is a key step in advancing Sarawak’s digital infrastructure and fostering economic growth.
Commenting on the agreement, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Morshidi said that the collaboration marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Sarawak, as it moves towards a more sustainable and digitally-driven future.
“I believe that by harnessing cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions, we are on the right track to accelerate economic growth, enhance environmental stewardship, and improve the quality of life for the people of Sarawak,” he said.
