KUCHING, 22 OCTOBER 2024 – Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak Sdn Bhd (CENTEXS), and ANGKASAX Innovation Sdn Bhd (Angkasa-X) recently exchanged Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on areas such as human capital development and AI-driven technological solutions focusing on space-related industries.

The exchange ceremony took place at the two-day International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024) held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from 16 to 17 October 2024.

Present to witness the exchange was the Premier of Sarawak, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. SDEC was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, while CENTEXS and Angkasa-X were represented by Chief Executive Officer Dato Haji Syeed Mohd Hussien bin Wan Abd Rahman and Executive Chairman Dato Dr Sean Seah, respectively.

Exchange of MoUs among the three parties

SDEC will look into the possibility of establishing the satellite Ground Stations for satellite operation and setting up of Assembly-integration-Testing (AIT) facilities for the development of Sarawak owned satellites to provision Remote-sensing and Telecommunication services as part of the A-SEANSAT and A-SEANLINK Constellations. It will also look into the development of satellite applications and services through the Sarawak Digital and Innovation Ecosystem.

Meanwhile, CENTEXS’ collaboration focuses on human capital development, training and accreditation in Space technology, rocket, satellite and related areas, including sharing or exchanging information such as technical knowledge, professional experience, industry standards and best practices.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into space and satellite technology will be the focus area for Angkasa-X. Its joint venture with CENTEXS will centre on SpaceTech talent specialising in satellite-engineering and space as well as research and development to develop Sarawak/Borneo Space Economy.

Commenting on the significance of the MoU, SDEC Chief Executive Officer Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman said the partnership represents a transformative leap, enhancing connectivity and contributing to a more interconnected Sarawak.

“The development of Sarawak owned satellites will further enable reliable communication in remote and underserved areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking. They facilitate advancements in broadband services, ensuring seamless global communication and fostering innovation across various sectors,” Sudarnoto said.
