Sarawakian innovators and start-ups share expertise at MIFB Trade Fair

KUALA LUMPUR, 12-14 JULY 2023 – The Malaysian International Food & Beverage (MIFB) Trade Fair held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 12 to 14 July 2023 showcased the diverse talents and innovations from all across Malaysia. Among the esteemed experts and speakers invited to the event were representatives from Sarawak namely Kenneth Chai of Airgro and Jonah Lau of Sinisana Technologies.

Founder of Airgro, an agriculture and cloud farming innovator, Chai captivated the audience with his insightful presentation titled “Growing More with Less Through Precision Agriculture.” He shared Airgro’s remarkable journey of developing an eco-friendly system known as the Climate Chamber for Growing Imported Crops.

Through their innovative solution, Airgro demonstrated how the power of technology and precision farming techniques enable sustainable agriculture while optimising resources. Chai also highlighted the support received from Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and their Centre of Excellence (CoE) Testbed space, which played a vital role in the development and prototyping of Airgro’s pioneering system.

Meanwhile, Lau who is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Sinisana Technologies, shed light on the transformative impact of blockchain technology in the supply chain sector. In his engaging session, Jonah emphasized how blockchain has become a game-changer, ensuring transparency, security, and efficiency in supply chain processes.

He also shared insights into how Sinisana Technologies, a prominent player in the blockchain industry, benefited from the support of SDEC’s Digital Village Accelerator (DiVA) Program, which has been instrumental in empowering Sarawakian tech start-ups.

The participation of these Sarawakian experts at MIFB 2023 exemplifies the region’s growing prominence in the innovation and entrepreneurial landscape. By sharing their knowledge and experiences, Chai and Lau inspire other innovators and start-ups to venture beyond their comfort zones and embrace their growth potential.

“The achievements of Airgro and Sinisana Technologies highlight the strides being made in Sarawak Digital & Innovation Ecosystem, which is a catalytic initiative of our Post Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), and serve as an inspiration for aspiring inventors and entrepreneurs,” he added.
