SIBU, 18 SEPTEMBER 2026<\/strong> \u2013 The expansion of the Sibu Digital Innovation Hub (Sibu DIH) by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) Berhad marked another step in strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Sibu and the wider central region of Sarawak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Commemoration of the Sibu DIH Expansion event today, YB Datuk Dr Annuar bin Rapaee, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development I (Education and Innovation), said in his speech that Sibu has long been recognised as one of Sarawak\u2019s key centres for commerce, entrepreneurship, and community-driven economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith its strong entrepreneurial spirit and active business community, the town provides a solid foundation for the growth of innovation and enterprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, I see the expansion of the Sibu DIH as timely, as it reflects the growing demand for innovation programmes, digital skills development, and entrepreneurial support in Sibu and the surrounding towns,\u201d Annuar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that as innovation and technology continue to shape the future economy, it is increasingly important for communities to have access to platforms that encourage experimentation, collaboration, skills development, and business growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded Sibu DIH now features four additional dedicated startup offices, a larger event space, and improved facilities, providing greater capacity for SDEC and its partners to empower entrepreneurs, startups, students, innovators, and the wider community at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key enhancement of the expansion is the 24-hour operating model for the startup offices. Recognising that entrepreneurs do not necessarily work within the 8-to-5 working hours, the extended operating hours provide a more flexible environment for them to develop their ideas, products, and businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sarawak Government remains committed to advancing the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 (SDE Blueprint 2030) through investments in infrastructure, technology, and its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its launch in 2022, the Sibu DIH has supported more than 3,630 participants through 157 training sessions conducted by over 90 professional trainers. To date, the programmes conducted include social media marketing, Business Model Canvas, basic business accounting, STEM outreach, and digital literacy, all aimed at equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to upskill and reskill for the digital economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
