KUCHING, 3 NOVEMBER 2025 – The Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) announces that the DE Rantau Sarawak Pass is now open for applications, marking a major step in positioning Sarawak as ASEAN’s premier destination for digital nomads and remote professionals.

Developed in collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and supported by the Sarawak Government, the program introduces a dedicated Professional Visit Pass (PVP) that allows eligible digital freelancers and remote workers to live and work in Sarawak for up to 12 months, with the option to renew for another year.

This initiative marks the first phase of the Sarawak Digital Residency Program (SDRP) — a cornerstone of Sarawak’s Digital Economy Strategy aimed at attracting international talent, enhancing digital mobility, and strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem.

Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC, said the initiative reflects Sarawak’s readiness to welcome global digital professionals and strengthen its growing digital community founded on innovation and sustainability.

The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, previously underscored Sarawak’s commitment to driving the digital economy and positioning the state as a premier destination for remote-working professionals — a vision that continues to guide this initiative.

Key Highlights:

  • Remote Work Visa: Professional Visit Pass valid for 3 to 12 months, renewable for an additional 12 months.
  • Open Eligibility: Available to digital freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote professionals in technology and creative sectors, including Digital Influencers.
  • Family-Friendly: Pass holders may bring their spouse, children, and parents.
  • The Sarawak Advantage: Modern infrastructure, affordability, world-class biodiversity, and rich cultural heritage.

From riverside cafés in Kuching to rainforest retreats and creative hubs across the state, Sarawak offers a lifestyle that blends productivity with purpose. Through SDEC’s leadership, the state is shaping itself into a regional hub for remote work innovation and cross-border collaboration, bringing together global talent within a sustainable and digitally connected ecosystem.

SDEC also invites local ecosystem partners — including co-working spaces, tourism operators, and digital service providers — to collaborate in building a vibrant and welcoming digital nomad community across the state.
