Fibre-optic speeds of up to 100Mbps will bring benefits to over 20,000 households
BELAGA, 9 OCTOBER 2025 – The new MySRBN coverage in Belaga was officially launched today by The Honourable Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Bin Haji Narawi, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak. The ceremony was also attended by The Honourable Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Sarawak; and Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC.

The launch underscores the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment, through the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), to expand high-speed internet connectivity to rural areas, thereby bridging the digital divide between urban and rural communities. The event was attended by more than 300 guests, including local residents, representatives of government agencies, and members of the media.
MySRBN XL – Advancing Fibre-Optic Technology
Launched in 2021, MySRBN has become the backbone of rural broadband services. Now, MySRBN XL introduces fibre-optic technology offering speeds of up to 100Mbps through flexible prepaid plans with no long-term contracts. This initiative improves connection quality while giving rural communities more affordable and accessible options.
For MySRBN, as of 6 October 2025, a total of 35,700 premises has been equipped with Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), including 225 premises in Belaga, while 573 SMART sites are operational across Sarawak. MySRBN has also recorded an average daily traffic volume of 7.83 GB per user (CPE) across Sarawak.
Infrastructure Sharing & Digital Ecosystem
The implementation of MySRBN XL is further strengthened through infrastructure sharing between the Sarawak and Federal Governments, with Borneo Restu Sdn. Bhd. as the implementing contractor. This approach enables the joint use of towers and fibre-optic cables, accelerating network expansion in a more cost-effective manner.
In addition to infrastructure, SDEC is also developing an inclusive digital ecosystem involving the government, communities, industries, and educational institutions to fully leverage the internet for educational, economic, and social purposes.

“The launch of MySRBN XL today proves that geographical challenges are not obstacles but catalysts that push us to find creative solutions to ensure rural communities are not left behind in the digital development agenda,” said YB Dato Sri Julaihi.
“With MySRBN XL, our children can learn more effectively, entrepreneurs can grow their businesses, and our communities can enjoy the benefits of technology on par with urban areas,” added YB Datuk Liwan.
“SDEC will continue to play a key role as a driver of Sarawak’s digital transformation through infrastructure development, smart partnerships, and the building of a sustainable digital ecosystem,” stressed SDEC CEO.
Also present were Encik Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak; Encik Elvis anak Didit, Resident Kapit Division; Puan Bidah Lujah, Belaga District Officer; as well as senior management representatives from various agencies and SDEC staff.
